Journeys of Discipleship — Blacknall Arts Song Inspired by Road to Emmaus

Blacknall Arts, our community of in-house songwriters and musicians, has released their third single off the forthcoming album, “From the Dead.” The song, “Your Home,” is now available to stream on Spotify, Apple Music, and other platforms.

The song is one of two on the record that draws inspiration from Luke 24 and the story of Jesus meeting two disciples on the road to Emmaus. Just as Jesus’ presence can be hidden and revealed in our own journeys of discipleship, the song moves through a similar pattern: longing to see Jesus in dark or lonely places, the way Jesus is revealed through death and resurrection, and trusting in Jesus to open our eyes to His presence in the people and activities of our daily lives.

Liner notes about “Your Home” by co-writer Sarah Lapp

The story of the road to Emmaus is rich with imagery to feed our spiritual imaginations. While there are already many songs drawn from this text, this one is unique because it  grew out of the personal and shared reflections on how the text was speaking to me and co-writers Nat Stine and Caleb Wagner in the moment that we wrote it. The chorus, in particular, has elements of each person’s creative intuition. When recording, Hannah Taylor added her own interpretation through expressive vocals. The hope is that anyone who listens will allow this Scriptural text to speak to them in fresh ways and feast on the rich picture of God with us. Music is one good entry point into doing just that.

About “From the Dead”

With songs of praise, reflection, and adoration, a new album from Blacknall Arts is set to celebrate the heart of the Christian story: Jesus Christ is risen, and new life is breaking through. The collection includes original works, hymn retunes, and even a classic Wendell Berry poem set to music. Across its rich variety, one theme resounds: Christ is the firstfruits from the dead, and we are drawn with him into new life. From the Dead will release on June 3.
