We look forward to hosting you at Blacknall! Here are some frequently asked questions to make your visit easier when we see you on Sundays.
Where are you located?
Blacknall is located at 1902 Perry St. in Durham. Our church is a block away from Duke University’s East Campus as well as 9th Street, where you’ll find a collection of locally-owned restaurants and other businesses.
Where can I park?
There is free weekend parking available on surrounding streets, including Iredell, Perry, and 9th. On weekends, a Duke University parking lot across the street from us also becomes available for public use at the Duke Human Resources building (map). When you join us on Sunday, you’re welcome to park in the lot along with many other Blacknall attendees.
How long are your services?
We host services each Sunday at 8:30 and 11 a.m. in our sanctuary. Each of our services averages about 75 minutes in length. We view our services as a form of covenant renewal:
The Holy Spirit first calls us to gather together to worship the Lord through praise and adoration.
We then kneel and confess our sins and ask for forgiveness.
God speaks his Word to us through Scripture and we respond through song, prayer, and accepting the invitation to receive the Eucharist at Christ’s table.
We share congregational announcements and ask for prayer requests.
After receiving God’s word and having fed on Christ by faith in the Lord’s Supper, we are sent forth in blessing, by the Holy Spirit.
Which service should I attend?
Everyone is welcome at either of our 8:30 or 11 a.m. services. The two Sunday morning services are identical to each other as a way for our members and visitors to grow together in unity. Want to see what a service is like? Watch recordings on our YouTube page.
Can I just show up?
Everyone is welcome at our Sunday services! Whether you’re visiting friends or family or exploring new places of worship, we look forward to having you.
What should I wear?
There’s no dress code at Blacknall and our sanctuary is air conditioned to keep you comfortable. Come in what you’d like, whether that’s jeans and a T-shirt, your Sunday best, or shorts or a dress during our hot North Carolina summers.
Do you offer childcare?
Trained staff provide programming for children during both Sunday worship services, as well as during Sunday School from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Learn more about Children’s Ministry offerings.
What is music like on Sundays?
Our band plays a variety of worship music that helps us praise God. Changing each week, music may include reflective songs rooted in Scripture, hymns of praise, and original, contemporary works created by our in-house collection of musicians and vocalists.
