Blacknall Arts, our community of in-house songwriters and musicians, has released its latest single from the forthcoming album, “From the Dead.” The song, “Death Tasted Death,” is now available to stream on Spotify, Apple Music and other platforms.
The song was inspired by the powerful Easter homily of St. John Chrysostom. In it, he paints hell as an overconfident villain who triumphantly welcomes Jesus into its dominion after his death on the cross, ready to devour him. But Jesus plays the part of a Trojan horse and hell doesn’t know what it has let into its kingdom. “Hell took a body, and discovered God,” Chrysostom wrote in his sermon.
Liner notes about “Death Tasted Death” by co-writer Wen Reagan, Director of Music & Worship
I find this message of Christ’s victory so helpful and cosmic. It’s already sweet news that Jesus has paid for all of my sin so that I may be free, but He has done so much more than that. He has put Death to death in order to set His creation free. This cosmic sense of the Resurrection pulls me out of my individualistic or transactional tendencies and reminds me of the sweeping victory of the Kingdom of God over all things — powers, principalities, even death itself. As Chrysostom declares, “Let no one fear death, for the death of our Savior has set us free!"

About “From the Dead”
With songs of praise, reflection, and adoration, a new album from Blacknall Arts is set to celebrate the heart of the Christian story: Jesus Christ is risen, and new life is breaking through. The collection includes original works, hymn retunes, and even a classic Wendell Berry poem set to music. Across its rich variety, one theme resounds: Christ is the firstfruits from the dead, and we are drawn with him into new life. From the Dead will release on June 3.
