'Resonating with the Chords of the Cosmos' — Celebrating Music as Ministry

When Ehsan Samei stands with Blacknall’s worship band on Sundays and begins to play the first notes of the song of gathering, he isn’t focused on a skillful performance. He’s thinking about a God who exists beyond us and the music and lyrics being shared to praise Him.

As it all comes together — the sound of a song, the voices of the congregation — “you feel like you're resonating with the chords of the cosmos,” he said. Helping lead worship on Sundays has become a form of discipleship for Ehsan, who isn’t seeking the spotlight, but the chance to help people encounter God. Over time, leading worship became more than volunteering to play music — it was a way Ehsan learned to offer himself to God and serve others.

“You would like to put your contribution into a place that matters. You don't want to just waste your gifts that you have,” he said. “Worship at church is a good place to exercise your gifts. You are contributing to a bigger reality.”

As a classically trained musician, Ehsan spent years performing in spaces where the focus was clear: the audience sat in front of a stage, listening for technical excellence and artistic skill. Church worship changed that orientation completely: “The audience is God Himself,” he said.

In Blacknall’s sanctuary, Ehsan encounters moments when the musicians, congregation, and songs come together in a way that feels anchoring and holy. People gathering, singing, and celebrating God is one of the most important parts of church life, he said, and being part of these experiences helped him discover a new way to embrace music and practice discipleship. For Ehsan, the worship band is meant to create a space where others can draw closer to Christ.

“We become a channel, a facilitator, an enabler to connect that person to God,” he said. “If that happens, if you are resonating with that heavenly reality, then we are all resonating.”
