‘Curious Catechism’ Sparks Conversations on Theology, Adding a Space for Wonder

Examples of cards included in the Curious Catechism deck.

The questions kids ask about God and the Bible—and how they ask them—can be very different than their parents. That’s why a program created by Blacknall Kids offers families a new way to help children of all ages deepen their connection with God and become more curious about theology.

Curious Catechism” is a resource inspired by the kinds of questions and conversations started by kids and that take place weekly among families at Blacknall. You can request materials by contacting Brandon Miller, Director of Children's Ministry or talking to Children’s Ministry staff on Sundays at Blacknall. The new program includes:

  • A deck of 52 Curious Catechism cards that feature questions about theology, God, and the Church. Each card has a question along with a short answer that acts as a prompt for dialogue, from “What is the Trinity?” to “Why did God make people?” and “Why does the church gather?”

  • A monthly booklet that matches a particular liturgical season, like Eastertide or Pentecost. Each booklet highlights prayer, Biblically-guided art, and points of discussion that connect to Scripture. You’ll also find a curated playlist of music and a list of topical books available in the Blacknall library.

  • At each Sunday service, messages during our Children’s Blessing will connect with a question from Curious Catechism to start the conversation families can continue at home.
