Church & Community Announcements
“Blacknall has been a really good, living demonstration that there doesn’t have to be tension between a life of faith and scholarship or academic inquiry.”
While Avyi Hill stood alone in front of our congregation this past Sunday, her first time preaching wasn’t a solitary act.
Stories inspire an increased attention to caring for those in need.
Hunter Lambeth and Renay Mattar, two Blacknall-supported ministry partners, visited our congregation.
Blacknall staff and congregants created new worship music from scratch.
Blacknall senior women are invited to join a summer book group to read and discuss “Aging Faithfully: The Holy Invitation of Growing Older”
Blacknall's summer reading program is back! When you make summer plans for your kids, put reading at the top of your list.
Suzanne Pape, Zeke Epps, and Avyi Hill will work with our Children's and Youth ministries.
The Sunday School class schedule for the summer is now posted. The semester begins Sunday, June 1 at 10 a.m.
Blacknall Arts, our community of in-house songwriters and musicians, has released its latest album, “Spirit Songs Vol. 1.”
“Curious Catechism” is a resource inspired by the kinds of questions and conversations started by kids and that take place weekly among families at Blacknall. It includes handouts and weekly conversations that can start at Blacknall and continue at home.
Bryan Roth joined us April 9 as our new Director of Communications! In this role, Bryan will oversee all our print, digital, and web communications to engage members, ministry partners, and the community to advance the kingdom of God.
Thank you to all the members of Blacknall who attended the Congregational Meeting and voted on Sunday, March 23. We are so grateful for all the officer candidates who offered to serve. We are pleased to announce the results of the election.
How can the arts help us open up the very heart of the Christian faith, celebrated at the Council of Nicaea in 325, that Jesus Christ is “one in being” with God? The Duke Initiatives in Theology and the Arts will host its annual symposium Sept. 4-7 at Duke. The event features academics, artists, musicians, and clergy from around the globe who will offer presentations, discussions, and performances that can be enjoyed by all.
Women in healthcare professions often face unique challenges. Providing skilled care with compassion while managing demanding hours requires significant emotional labor and often leads to spiritual stress. There are also many rewarding and fulfilling experiences and lessons learned that can be shared. We warmly invite women in all areas of healthcare to join us for fellowship and conversations, to share wisdom, triumphs, and challenges.
The Sunday School class schedule and descriptions for the spring semester are now available.
Adult classes will cover a variety of ongoing and new topics. You can jump right into any of these classes, even if you did not attend the prior semester of an ongoing study. There is no reason to hesitate, please come!
We’ve updated the Links page on Blacknall’s Church Center with new resources! On this page you can now find new links to Session and Diaconate member directories, the new facility/room request form, and an archive of video recorded classes available only to the Blacknall community.
Looking for a place to serve at Blacknall? Check out our volunteer hub. Whether you’re into decorating, singing, storytelling, or just hanging out with the cool kids (our middle/high school students, obviously!), we have a place for you to serve at Blacknall! There are also low commitment—but critical— positions that we need to fill.
