How can the arts help us open up the very heart of the Christian faith, celebrated at the Council of Nicaea in 325, that Jesus Christ is “one in being” with God?
The Duke Initiatives in Theology and the Arts will host its annual symposium Sept. 4-7 at Duke. The event features academics, artists, musicians, and clergy from around the globe who will offer presentations, discussions, and performances that can be enjoyed by all.
A keynote event, “Fully Alive: Recovering Humanity through the Arts,” takes place Friday, Sept. 5 with a set of original music by singer-songwriter Sandra McCracken, followed by a discussion on theology, anthropology, and the arts with former Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams and contemporary novelist Chigozie Obioma. Single-event tickets are available.
On Saturday, Sept. 6, a unique concert will bring together a variety of genres and styles along with spoken word for "Life Unbounded: Exploring Resurrection Life through the Dynamism of Music." The concert is led by DITA Director Dr. Jeremy Begbie and features the New Caritas Orchestra, soprano soloist Awet Andemicael, and Sandra McCracken. Single-event tickets are available.
The 16 speakers and artists at DITA2025 includes Blacknall member Dr. Ehsan Samei. Ehsan is a classical musician with an active interest in epistemology and exploring the commonalities and interactions between science, art, and faith. You can find the full lineup of guests on the DITA2025 site.
You can register now to attend the conference. While registration for the full event includes access to the Friday night keynote, you can also purchase individual tickets for that event.
