All Hail the Power of Jesus’ Name

1 All hail the power of Jesus' name!
Let angels prostrate fall.
Bring forth the royal diadem,
and crown him Lord of all.
Bring forth the royal diadem,
and crown him Lord of all!

 2 O seed of Israel's chosen race
now ransomed from the fall,
hail him who saves you by his grace,
and crown him Lord of all.
Hail him who saves you by his grace,
and crown him Lord of all!

3 Let every kindred, every tribe,
on this terrestrial ball,
to him all majesty ascribe,
and crown him, Lord of all
to him all majesty ascribe,
and crown him Lord of all.

Invocation

Heavenly Father, we gather this morning to hail your name, to hallow it, to exalt it.  Great are you Lord, in all the universe, and worthy of our praise. Open our hearts and minds to your presence, your goodness and beauty and truth, so that we might truly worship you in the beauty of your holiness> And, as a result, might we find ourselves ready to trust you, and to follow you in obedience and joy.  In the name of Christ our Savior, Amen.

Responsive Scripture Reading | Psalm 71:1-3, 14-19

In you, Lord, I have taken refuge;
    let me never be put to shame.
2 In your righteousness, rescue me and deliver me;
    turn your ear to me and save me.
3 Be my rock of refuge,
    to which I can always go;
give the command to save me,
    for you are my rock and my fortress.

14 As for me, I will always have hope;
    I will praise you more and more.
15 My mouth will tell of your righteous deeds,
    of your saving acts all day long—
    though I know not how to relate them all.
16 I will come and proclaim your mighty acts, Sovereign Lord;
    I will proclaim your righteous deeds, yours alone.
17 Since my youth, God, you have taught me,
    and to this day I declare your marvelous deeds.
18 Even when I am old and gray,
    do not forsake me, my God,
till I declare your power to the next generation,
    your mighty acts to all who are to come.
19 Your righteousness, God, reaches to the heavens,
    you who have done great things.
    Who is like you, God?

Call to Confession

Who is like the Lord? Who knows us so well that he alone can speak the truth about us, and yet who loves us so well that he will not judge us according to what we deserve? With confident trust, not in our own righteousness, but in the saving mercy of God, let us kneel and confess our sins.

Prayer of Confession

Gracious Heavenly Father, who welcomes home the prodigal who only knows his own desperation but cannot imagine Your goodness, who pleads with the older brother to lay down his prideful resentments so that he might know the joy of forgiveness and love, so help us to name and to turn from our own rebellious ways. In you O Lord is life, and only in you is there forgiveness of our sin. Through the finished work of Jesus Christ do not only forgive, but help us to turn, to repent, to renounce our old destructive ways, and to follow you in confident hope.  In His name we pray, Amen.

Assurance of Pardon

Friends, anyone who in Christ is a new creation! The old has gone, the new has come and all this is from God.

Here the good news, in Jesus Christ you are forgiven.

Passing the Peace

May the peace of the Lord be with you.

Response: And also with you

Affirmation of Faith | Apostles Creed

We believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth; And in Jesus Christ His only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; He descended into hell; the third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, and sits on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the living and the dead. We believe in the Holy Spirit; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.

Proclamation of the Word | Pastor Goodie Bell

Mark 3:20-35

20 Then Jesus entered a house, and again a crowd gathered, so that he and his disciples were not even able to eat. 21 When his family heard about this, they went to take charge of him, for they said, “He is out of his mind.”

22 And the teachers of the law who came down from Jerusalem said, “He is possessed by Beelzebul! By the prince of demons he is driving out demons.”

23 So Jesus called them over to him and began to speak to them in parables:“How can Satan drive out Satan? 24 If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand. 25 If a house is divided against itself, that house cannot stand. 26 And if Satan opposes himself and is divided, he cannot stand; his end has come. 27 In fact, no one can enter a strong man’s house without first tying him up. Then he can plunder the strong man’s house.28 Truly I tell you, people can be forgiven all their sins and every slander they utter, 29 but whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven; they are guilty of an eternal sin.”

30 He said this because they were saying, “He has an impure spirit.”

31 Then Jesus’ mother and brothers arrived. Standing outside, they sent someone in to call him. 32 A crowd was sitting around him, and they told him, “Your mother and brothers are outside looking for you.”

33 “Who are my mother and my brothers?” he asked.

34 Then he looked at those seated in a circle around him and said, “Here are my mother and my brothers! 35 Whoever does God’s will is my brother and sister and mother.”

Communion Song | Worship Band
Come to the Feast

Go to the highways and hedges;
Go to the farthest of fields
Go and compel the sick and the well;
For our Father’s house will be filled

Come to the feast, come to the table;
The great and the least, the rich and the poor
Come to the feast, come to the table;
Come and hunger no more

In the robe of the Lamb you’ll be covered;
Dressed in his pure righteousness
For all of your guilt, his blood, it was spilt;
So come, by your Father be blessed

Prayers of Thanksgiving and Intercession

Would you like to share a prayer request? Submit your request here.

(As you pray the following petitions, you are encouraged to pause and lift to the Lord particular concerns or people or events. Read prayer requests from Blacknall members and ministry partners here.)

Lord, you have called us as Christians to remember to pray for the Church and the world, and the ongoing ministry of the gospel, that it might increase and make disciples of all nations, and so we pray:

All:  Lord, hear our prayer.

For the poor, the hungry, and the oppressed peoples of the world, for those who are sick or grieving, especially _______________ and for all who suffer for the sake of the gospel, we pray:

Lord, hear our prayer.

For all who have not yet heard or believed in the gospel, and for those who once again must become obedient to Christ, we pray:

Lord, hear our prayer.

For the peoples of the world and their leaders, especially ___________, that there may be an end to war and a greater opportunity for the gospel, we pray:

Lord, hear our prayer.

For our nation and all who govern, that all citizens may dwell in peace and enjoy the blessings of justice and freedom, we pray:

Lord, hear our prayer.

For the Church throughout the world: for all her ministers and her people, that we as faithful disciples may fulfill the mission of Christ and reach out to all people, we pray:

Lord, hear our prayer.

For all the members of our Christian community, that we may all grow in Christian discipleship, we pray:

Lord, hear our prayer.

We pray together, now, just as you taught us to pray...

The Lord’s Prayer
Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name.
Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors;
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For Thine is the kingdom and the power, and the glory, forever.
Amen.

Song of Response | Worship Band & Congregation
The Solid Rock

My Hope is built on nothing less
than Jesus' blood and righteousness
I dare not trust the sweetest frame,
but wholly lean on Jesus' name

On Christ the solid rock I stand,
All other ground is sinking sand;
All other ground is sinking sand

When darkness seems to hide his face,
I rest on his unchanging grace
in every high and stormy gale,
my anchor holds with - in the veil.

His oath, his covenant, his blood,
support me in the whelming flood.
when all around my soul gives way,
he then is all my hope and stay.

When he shall come with trumpet sound,
oh may I then in him be found.
dressed in his righteousness alone,
faultless to stand before the throne.
