How John Perkins Transformed Christianity

  • Parlor, Blacknall 1902 Perry Street Durham, NC, 27705 (map)

Nearly martyred in Mississippi for his witness, Rev. Dr. John M. Perkins spent decades building a Christian movement for social and racial healing across the country. The civil rights leader, pastor, and author died March 13, but his work and memory continue to shape ministries focused on racial reconciliation and Christian community.

On Tuesday, June 2, join Reynolds Chapman, director of ministry partner DurhamCares, and Chris Rice, who worked alongside Rev. Perkins for many years, as they reflect on his impact and what he taught about holding together justice, forgiveness, and faith. By learning more about Rev. Perkins’ legacy, we hope to be inspired for what we can do next.

The event will begin begin at 7 p.m. in the Parlor (room 215).

Read Rev. Perkins’ obituaries in the New York Times and Christianity Today.
