Sacred Fire 2026: A Durham Pentecost Celebration

  • Durham Central Park 501 Foster Street Durham, NC, 27701 (map)

Blacknall ministry partners Mt. Level Community Partnership for Racial Justice and DurhamCares will host “Sacred Fire” on Sunday, May 24. The Pentecost celebration includes community worship, activities for kids, and dance and music performances — including the Blacknall Dance worship group. The event starts at 5 p.m. at Durham Central Park (map).

Sacred Fire offers the chance to connect with Christians from across Durham to seek God’s vision of unity, diversity, justice, and salvation. This year’s featured speaker is Rev. Dr. Donna Coletrane Battle, consulting faculty at Duke Divinity School and a spiritual practitioner focused on justice and holistic wellness as it relates to the intersection of race, gender, and spirituality. Other presenters include:

  • Reynolds Chapman (DurhamCares)

  • Pastor Robert Daniels (St. John's Missionary Baptist Church)

  • Rev. Tanya Johnson (Abundant Hope Christian Church)

  • Rev. Dr. Tammy Rodman (Reality Ministries)

  • Rev. Breana van Velzen (Durham Congregations in Action)

The celebration will also include voter registration and spaces for kids to create arts and crafts! Bring a lawn chair, invite friends, and celebrate Pentecost with churches from across Durham!
