When considering how each staff member at Blacknall supports the congregation, Ashely Weinard thinks of it like a banquet.
“The staff use their distinctive skills to set the table for us each week,” she shared this past Sunday. “Then, thankfully, they graciously invite us in to draw closer together and closer to Christ. They make it tasty, lovely, and even challenging. And that preparation takes time and effort, know-how, and a lot of love."
Ashley and George Arky shared a testimony of giving during Sunday announcements on May 10 as part of our series highlighting the people and ministries that serve Blacknall’s congregation, Durham, and beyond. George and Ashley volunteer on the church’s personnel committee and noted that 53% of Blacknall’s budget supports staff salaries and benefits — which also helps our employees care for families — and each staff member plays a unique role in the “banquet” that is both joyful and sacrificial.
With this year’s giving on track to fall below Blacknall’s projected budget, George and Ashley encouraged the congregation to ask, “What is our part?” By giving for the first time or slightly increasing current giving, they said the congregation can support a staff that leads in discipleship and worship every week, organizes fellowship events, and helps support Blacknall’s ministries that serve Durham, on campuses, and internationally.
"Blacknall has always struck me as a very generous body of believers," George said. "I know we will steward our gifts in a way that honors the Lord and honors his people. Thank you for hearing the need and just listening with open hearts."
