Invocation
“Lift up your heads, you gates; be lifted up, you ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in.
Who is this King of glory?
The Lord strong and mighty, the Lord mighty in battle.
Lift up your heads, you gates; lift them up, you ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in.
Who is He, this King of glory?
The Lord Almighty—He is the King of glory.” (from Psalm 24)
Lift our hearts, O Lord, to see You today!
Empower our worship, we pray, in Christ’s name. Amen.
“Holy is the Lord”
We stand and lift up our hands for the joy of the Lord is our strength;
We bow down and worship Him now; how great, how awesome is He!
And together we sing, everyone sing
Holy is the Lord, God Almighty, the earth is filled with His glory!
Holy is the Lord, God Almighty, the earth is filled with His glory!
The earth is filled with His glory!
It is rising up all around, it’s the anthem of the Lord’s renown
(repeat)

Scripture Reading: from Isaiah 53
Who has believed our message and to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?
He grew up before Him like a tender shoot, and like a root out of dry ground.
He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to Him,
nothing in His appearance that we should desire Him.
He was despised and rejected by mankind, a man of sorrows, and familiar with suffering.
Like one from whom people hide their faces He was despised, and we held Him in low esteem.
Surely He took up our infirmities and carried our sorrows,
yet we considered Him stricken by God, smitten by Him, and afflicted.
But He was pierced for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities;
the punishment that brought us peace was on Him, and by His wounds we are healed.
We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to our own way;
and the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.
“Jesus, Lover of my Soul”
Jesus, lover of my soul, let me to Thy bosom fly,
While the nearer waters roll, while the tempest still is high.
Hide me, O my Savior, hide, till the storm of life is past;
Safe into the haven guide; O receive my soul at last.
Other refuge have I none, hangs my helpless soul on Thee;
Leave, ah! leave me not alone, still support and comfort me.
All my trust on Thee is stayed, all my help from Thee I bring;
Cover my defenseless head with the shadow of Thy wing.
Words by Charles Wesley, 1738. Music by Joseph Parry, 1879.
Prayers of Confession
Lord Jesus, on this day You entered the rebellious city that later rejected You:
We confess that our wills are as rebellious as those who were in Jerusalem;
our faith is often more show than substance; our hearts are in need of cleansing.
Have mercy on us, Son of David, Savior of our lives.
Help us to lay at Your feet all that we have and all that we are,
trusting You to forgive what is sinful, to heal what is broken,
and to receive us as Your own. Amen.
Assurance of Pardon
Friends, it is true!
God has not cast us away – in Christ, we have been gathered together
and adopted as sons and daughters.
In Jesus Christ, you are forgiven – thanks be to God!
Passing the Peace
Text, email, or call a friend and extend the love of Christ to them.
Affirmation of Faith: Apostles Creed
We believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth; And in Jesus Christ His only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; He descended into hell; the third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, and sits on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the living and the dead. We believe in the Holy Spirit; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.
Children’s Blessing: 1 Corinthians 13:4-5
Love is… patient
Love is kind
It does NOT envy
It does NOT boast
It is NOT proud
It does NOT dishonor others
It is NOT self-seeking
It is NOT easily angered
It keeps NO record of wrongs
Proclamation of the Word: 2 Corinthians 5:14 – 6:1, Allan Poole
14 For Christ’s love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died. 15 And He died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for Him who died for them and was raised again.
16 So from now on we regard no one from a worldly point of view. Though we once regarded Christ in this way, we do so no longer. 17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come:
The old has gone, the new is here! 18 All this is from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: 19 that God was reconciling the world to Himself in Christ, not counting people’s sins against them. And He has committed to us the message of reconciliation. 20 We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making His appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God. 21 God made Him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God.
As God’s co-workers we urge you not to receive God’s grace in vain.
Song of Response: “To Mock Your Reign, O Dearest Lord”
To mock Your reign, O dearest Lord, they made a crown of thorns;
Set You with taunts along that road from which no one returns.
They did not know, as we do now, that glorious is Your crown;
That thorns would flower upon Your brow, Your sorrows heal our own.
In mock acclaim, O gracious Lord, they snatched a purple cloak,
Your passion turned, for all they cared, into a soldier’s joke.
They did not know, as we do now, that though we merit blame
You will Your robe of mercy throw around our naked shame.
A sceptered reed, O patient Lord, they thrust into Your hand,
And acted out their grim charade to its appointed end.
They did not know, as we do now, though empires rise and fall,
Your Kingdom shall not cease to grow ‘til love embraces all.
Hosanna to the Savior’s Name ‘til heaven’s rafters ring,
And all the ransomed host proclaim: “Behold, behold your King!”

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name.
Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors;
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For Thine is the kingdom and the power, and the glory, forever.
Amen.
“He Who Watches Over You”
He who watches over you will never slumber nor sleep;

O My child, lay your burdens down, lay them at My feet.
