INVOCATION
Lord, you are the high and lofty One, who inhabits eternity and your name is Holy. You dwell in the high and holy place. And we are not holy. We do not dwell in a high and holy place. But your Word tells us that you also dwell with the contrite and humble spirit. That you are the God who revives the spirit of the humble and to revive the heart of the contrite. Lord, we come humble and lowly. Revive our spirit. Revive our hearts. In your mercy, give us the new life in Christ we were created for. Amen.
Song | “Holy! Holy! Holy!
Holy, Holy, Holy! Lord God Almighty!
Early in the morning our song shall rise to Thee;
Holy, Holy, Holy! Merciful and mighty!
God in Three Persons, Blessed Trinity!
Holy, Holy, Holy! All the saints adore Thee,
Casting down their golden crowns around the glassy sea;
Cherubim and Seraphim falling down before Thee,
Who wert and art and evermore shalt be.
Holy, Holy, Holy! Though the darkness hide Thee,
Though the eye of sinful man Thy glory may not see;
Only Thou art holy, there is none beside Thee,
Perfect in power, in love and purity.
Holy, Holy, Holy! Lord God Almighty!
All Thy works shall praise Thy name in earth and sky and sea;
Holy, Holy, Holy! Merciful and mighty!
God in Three Persons, Blessed Trinity!
Words by Reginald Heber, 1826. Music by John Dykes, 1861.

All Creatures of Our God and King
Be Thou My Vision
In Christ Alone
Scripture Reading | From Psalm 33
No king is saved by the size of his army;
no warrior escapes by his great strength.
A horse is a vain hope for deliverance;
despite all its great strength it cannot save.
But the eyes of the Lord are on those who fear him,
on those whose hope is in his unfailing love,
to deliver them from death
and keep them alive in famine.
We wait in hope for the Lord;
he is our help and our shield.
In him our hearts rejoice,
for we trust in his holy name.
May your unfailing love be with us, Lord,
even as we put our hope in you.
Song | “Arise My Soul Arise”
Arise, my soul, arise, shake off your guilty fears;
The bleeding sacrifice on my behalf appears.
Before the throne my surety stands, before the throne my surety stands;
My name is written on His hands.
Arise (Arise), Arise (Arise), Arise,
Arise, my soul, arise. (Repeat)
Shake off your guilty fears and rise!
Five bleeding wounds He bears, received on Calvary;
They pour effectual prayers: they strongly plead for me.
“Forgive him, O forgive,” they cry,
“Forgive her, O forgive,” they cry,
Nor let that ransomed sinner die!”
My God is reconciled; His pard’ning voice I hear;
He owns me for His child: I can no longer fear.
With confidence I now draw nigh, with confidence I now draw nigh,
And “Father, Abba, Father” cry!
Words by Charles Wesley, 1742. Music by Kevin Twit, 1996. CCLI #43066.
Call to Confession
“God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble. Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time.” If you are able, you are invited to humble yourself by kneeling as a witness to yourself and to everyone else that indeed you are a sinner, lost and without hope except for the mercy of God found for us in Jesus Christ. Let us confess our sins before God.
Prayer of Confession
Lord, we kneel before you to confess our sin. We confess to you that we have not loved you with all our hearts, with all our minds, with all our strength, and with all our souls. We confess that our hearts are proficient factories of idols. We confess that we are experts at finding things, people, and desires to give ourselves to instead of giving ourselves to you in complete trust and devotion.
Lord, we confess to you that we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We confess that we have abused our neighbors, men and women created in the image of God. We have used them as a means to our own idolatrous ends. We have ignored them. We have refused to listen to them. We have said in word and deed that they are not worth our time.
Lord, we confess that in our failure to love you and our failure to love our neighbors, we have made a mess of everything. Our own lives and our life together are disordered, chaotic, and we are afraid. Lord, in your mercy, come and touch us. By your Holy Spirit, breathe new life in us we humbly pray. Set us free, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
Assurance of Pardon
Beloved, it is true. In Jesus Christ we have been forgiven, therefore let us draw near to God with a sincere heart, in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water. Amen.
[from Hebrews 10]
Passing the Peace
May the peace of the Lord be with you.
Response: And also with you
Affirmation of Faith | Apostles Creed
We believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth; And in Jesus Christ His only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; He descended into hell; the third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, and sits on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the living and the dead. We believe in the Holy Spirit; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.
Children’s Blessing | 1 Corinthians 15:54-58
Death has been swallowed up in victory.
Where, O death, is your victory?
Where, O death, is your sting?
The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law.
But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm.

Proclamation of the Word | Allan Poole
1 Corinthians 15.44b-58
If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body. 45 So it is written: “The first man Adam became a living being”; the last Adam, a life-giving spirit. 46 The spiritual did not come first, but the natural, and after that the spiritual. 47 The first man was of the dust of the earth; the second man is of heaven. 48 As was the earthly man, so are those who are of the earth; and as is the heavenly man, so also are those who are of heaven. 49 And just as we have borne the image of the earthly man, so shall we bear the image of the heavenly man.
50 I declare to you, brothers and sisters, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable. 51 Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed— 52 in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. 53 For the perishable must clothe itself with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality. 54 When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality, then the saying that is written will come true: “Death has been swallowed up in victory.”
55 “Where, O death, is your victory?
Where, O death, is your sting?”
56 The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. 57 But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
58 Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.
Song of Response | “Be Ye Glad”
In these days of confused situations,
In these nights of a restless remorse,
When the heart and the soul of a nation
Lay wounded and cold as a corpse,
From the grave of the innocent Adam
Comes a song bringing joy to the sad.
Oh, your cry has been heard, and the ransom
Has been paid up in full, be ye glad!
Oh, be ye glad, oh, be ye glad!
Every debt that you’ve ever had
Has been paid up in full by the grace of the Lord,
Be ye glad, be ye glad, be ye glad!
Now from your dungeon a rumor is stirring.
You have heard it again and again.
Ah, but this time the cell keys are turning,
And outside there are faces of friends.
And though your body lay weary from wasting
And your eyes show the sorrow they’ve had,
Oh, the love that your heart is now tasting
Has opened the gates, be ye glad!
So be like lights on the rim of the water
Giving hope in a storm sea of night.
Be a refuge amidst the slaughter
Of these fugitives in their flight,
For you are timeless and part of a puzzle.
You are winsome and young as a lad,
And there is no disease or no struggle
That can pull you from God, be ye glad!

Prayers of Thanksgiving & Intercession | Prayer Requests
Father, you created all of us in your image.
Lord Jesus, you came to show us your way of love, and then you were crucified. Your resurrection changed everything. In this crisis moment for our country, the power of brokenness and evil are in plain sight. Help us to bear our griefs and differences together with respect, because you will have the last word on all of it. You rose to show us a new way to move into the world, so renew our confidence that there's always enough of your love and your power. Because of all you have done for us in Christ, we can rise to receive forgiveness, to repent, and to forgive.
Holy Spirit, build your church. Show us our parts to play with the gifts you pour out. Help us to follow you with hope, grace and humility.
Give answer as we pray: Lord, have mercy.
For our civic leaders, that they would use their authority to safeguard the well-being and dignity of all. Lord, have mercy.
For those who are sick and alone (especially _____________________), may they know your healing, comfort and care. Lord, have mercy.
For those who provide care (especially __________________), give them strength, courage, and rest. Lord, have mercy.
For those who are grieving (especially ____________________), may they lament and receive hope because of you. Lord, have mercy.
For the church, that our willingness to love others as neighbors would witness to your love and power in us. Lord, have mercy.
Let us pray as Jesus taught us: Our Father...
The Lord’s Prayer
Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name.
Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors;
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For Thine is the kingdom and the power, and the glory, forever.
Amen.
Benediction
Song | “Spirit of Heaven”
Oh, Spirit of God, come down,
Let mercy and grace abound;
My passionate prayer shall be:
Christ in me.
