Invocation

Lord, the hosts of heaven praise you without ceasing.
As we come to worship, you invite us to lift our voices and join their unending song.
By Your Holy Spirit, help us; loose our lips to sing your praise.
We ask in Jesus’ name, Amen.

Song | “Be Unto Your Name”

We are a moment, You are forever,
Lord of the ages, God before time;
We are a vapor, You are eternal,
Love everlasting, reigning on high.

Holy, holy Lord God almighty,
Worthy is the Lamb who was slain.
Highest praises, honor and glory
Be unto Your name! Be unto Your name!

We are the broken, You are the healer,
Jesus Redeemer, mighty to save.
You are the love song, we’ll sing forever,
Bowing before You, blessing Your name.

Scripture Reading | Psalm 8

1 Lord, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!
You have set your glory
in the heavens.

2 Through the praise of children and infants
you have established a stronghold against your enemies,
to silence the foe and the avenger.

3 When I consider your heavens,
the work of your fingers,
the moon and the stars,
which you have set in place,

4 what is mankind that you are mindful of them,
human beings that you care for them?

5 You have made them a little lower than the angels
and crowned them with glory and honor.

6 You made them rulers over the works of your hands;
you put everything under their feet:

7 all flocks and herds,
and the animals of the wild,

8 the birds in the sky,
and the fish in the sea,
all that swim the paths of the seas.

9 Lord, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!

Song | “Amazing Grace (My Chains Are Gone)”

Amazing grace, how sweet the sound,
That saved a wretch like me.
I once was lost, but now I’m found,
Was blind but now I see.

‘Twas grace that taught my heart to fear,
And grace my fears relieved.
How precious did that grace appear,
The hour I first believed.

 My chains are gone, I’ve been set free.
My God, my Savior has ransomed me.
And like a flood His mercy reigns,
Unending love, amazing grace!

The Lord has promised good to me,
His word my hope secures.
He will my shield and portion be,
As long as life endures.

My chains are gone, I’ve been set free.
My God, my Savior has ransomed me.
And like a flood His mercy reigns,
Unending love, amazing grace!

The earth shall soon dissolve like snow,
The sun forbear to shine.
But God, who called me here below,
Will be forever mine, Will be forever mine,
You are forever mine.

Call to Confession

“Lord, our Lord...What is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them? You have made them a little lower than the angels and crowned them with glory and honor.” You sent your son to rescue the works of your hands and restore their glory. The Lord has shown us unending love and amazing grace. Therefore, let us come before Him with confidence to confess our sins.

Prayer of Confession

Lord, we are not what you made us to be: You have crowned us with glory and honor; we seek glory for ourselves apart from You. You appointed us rulers over the works of your hands; we have been careless with Your creation. You made us to marvel at your majestic name, but we have taken your name in vain. Forgive us, Lord. By Your Holy Spirit, re-create us. Do this for our good and for the glory of your Son, Jesus, whose death gave us life again. In his name, Amen.

Assurance of Pardon

Friends, it is true. In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven.

Passing the Peace

May the peace of the Lord be with you.
Response: And also with you

Affirmation of Faith | Apostles Creed

We believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth; And in Jesus Christ His only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; He descended into hell; the third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, and sits on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the living and the dead. We believe in the Holy Spirit; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.

Proclamation of the Word | Pastor Allan Poole

Matthew 6:5-13
“And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.

“This, then, is how you should pray:

“‘Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
10 your kingdom come,
your will be done,
    on earth as it is in heaven.
11 Give us today our daily bread.
12 And forgive us our debts,
    as we also have forgiven our debtors.
13 And lead us not into temptation,
 but deliver us from the evil one.’

Song of Response | “In Christ Alone”

In Christ alone my hope is found,
He is my light, my strength, my song;
This Cornerstone, this solid Ground,
Firm through the fiercest drought and storm.
What heights of love, what depths of peace,
When fears are stilled, when strivings cease!
My Comforter, my All in All,
Here in the love of Christ I stand.

In Christ alone! – who took on flesh,
Fullness of God in helpless babe!
This gift of love and righteousness,
Scorned by the ones He came to save;
When on the cross as Jesus died
“Forgive them Father,” our Lord cried
He faced our sin and broke its hold,
Here in the death of Christ I live.

There in the ground His body lay,
Light of the world by darkness slain;
Then bursting forth in glorious Day
Up from the grave He rose again!
And as He stands in victory
Sin’s curse has lost its grip on me,
For I am His and He is mine –
Bought with the precious blood of Christt

No guilt in life, no fear in death,
This is the power of Christ in me;
From life’s first cry to final breath,
Jesus commands my destiny.
No power of hell, no scheme of man,
Can ever pluck me from His hand;
Till He returns or calls me home,
Here in the power of Christ I’ll stand!

Prayers of Thanksgiving & Intercession  | Prayer Requests

Father, we pray that your name would be holy.  We pray that your character would be made known throughout the earth and especially through us.  May we demonstrate your character, the holiness of your name by our love for one another.  May we demonstrate your character, the holiness of your name by our love for the vulnerable—the poor, the widow, the orphan, and the stranger.  Grant us boldness to declare the truth of your name, of your true character to those around us.  Make us bold witnesses.  By your mercy, please allow us to know the joy of helping others come to discover your goodness and beauty and utter trustworthiness.

Lord Jesus, grant that we would keep our eyes fixed upon you, the pioneer and perfecter of our faith.

Holy Spirit, build your church.  Show us our parts to play with the gifts you pour out.  Help us to follow you with humility, grace and hope.

Give answer as we pray: Lord have mercy.

  • For our civic leaders, that they would use their authority to safeguard the well-being and dignity of all. Lord, have mercy.

  • For those who are sick and alone (especially ________), may they know your healing, comfort and care. Lord, have mercy.

  • For those who provide care (especially ________), give them strength, courage, and rest. Lord, have mercy.

  • For those who are grieving (especially ________), may they lament and receive hope because of you. Lord, have mercy.

  • For the church, that our willingness to love others as neighbors would witness to your love and power in us. Lord, have mercy.

Let us pray as Jesus taught us: Our Father...

The Lord’s Prayer
Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name.
Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors;
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For Thine is the kingdom and the power, and the glory, forever.
Amen.

Benediction
