Listening in the Wilderness with Jesus: A Time of Prayer & Fasting for Repentance & Healing. Fridays in July | Details Here
The elders on Session and the pastors are inviting the congregation to join them as they enter into a fast with our Young Adults. Each Friday for the month of July you are invited to fast for lunch and to spend that time in prayer. In this time of fasting we are asking God to reveal what he is doing in each one individually, what he is doing in the Church, in our nation, and in the world. It is a time of prayer for individual and corporate repentance, particularly around the issue of racism. It is asking God to answer the question, “What can we do?”

Prayer & Thanksgiving
Pray for Tom Harvey, the academic dean of the Oxford Centre of Missions Studies, and for his wife Judy Harvey, who continues her pastoral work with St Andrews Church in the Cutteslowe Community of Oxford. This Council Estate of Oxford is an area of great need Judy works with the families and the social workers there to provide community education, counseling, and worship services every Sunday. Prayer requests:
the churches in China, whose meetings have been suspended as a result of the Coronavirus;
wisdom for the Center to know how they can best help their students during this trying period;
guidance for Tom in writing and delivering lectures online;
health for the students, most of whom do not have access to good medical care in their home countries.
Pray for John Hawkins, the founder of Leadership Edge Inc. which is a ministry that is committed to developing God-honoring leaders located in Durham, Chapel Hill, Boston, San Francisco and Dallas. LEI is committed to “developing the kind of leaders our nation needs by engaging students, young professionals and other young leaders… by providing authentic Life-on-Life mentoring and training others to mentor with this vision.” John believes we all must ask and answer these questions in order to serve God’s purposes in our time:
As you look at the condition and culture of our country, what do you see?
As you look at the Church’s engagement of the challenges and needs of our country, in a God-dependent and God-honoring way, what do you see?
As you look at the future leaders of our country and consider what they need to live and lead in a God-honoring way, what do you see?
As you consider what you see in these areas in the light of God’s Word, what do you hear Him say to you?
And finally, and importantly, what will you do?
Pray for Christi & Steve Hinkle in the death of Christi’s dad.

About the Music
Over the years, we have sung “In Christ Alone” many times in worship. It is my strong hope that such repetition does not dull us to the fantastic text of this song, not to mention the wonderful musical setting. This song contains a remarkably large slice of the gospel. Remember that as we sing, we make proclamations, to ourselves, to others, even to the powers and principalities who oppose the Lordship of Christ. (Important note: though we are separated, lean into the “we” language, and see if you can feel the strength of the shared affirmation.) “In Christ Alone” is as strong a statement as can be made, and it was made by Jesus Himself repeatedly, declaring His singularity, His “alone”-ness. At the same time, He made clear His “one-ness” with His Father. This truth should be embraced by all as we sing, forgiven people, reconciled to our Holy God, with a true and certain hope. Let the radiant joy of the girls’ dancing lift your hearts: Here in the love of Christ we stand. - Dave Stuntz
