Festival of the Bean

  • Camp Chestnut Ridge 4300 Camp Chestnut Ridge Road Efland, NC, 27243 (map)

Are you prepared to bring the heat? Join us on Sunday, Oct. 19, for Blacknall’s 19th Annual Festival of the Bean! This chili-lovers’ event and competition will take place from 3 - 6 p.m. at Camp Chestnut Ridge in Efland.

 Don’t miss out on:

  • Chili for all to try!

  • A judged competition to name our "Lord" or "Lady of the Bean" with the top chili!

  • Lawn games for all ages! Feel free to bring volleyballs, frisbees, and your own games to share.

  • Dessert-time fellowship — with s’mores!

You can also volunteer to help in a variety of roles the day before our festival or the day of the event!

Details

For those making chili: If you plan to compete in the chili competition (and we hope you do!), please bring your chili in a crockpot with a ladle for serving, plus any condiments specific to your chili. Blacknall will provide sour cream and grated cheese for toppings. Make sure to give your chili a fantastic name, although the dish’s name should not reveal who made it. Also, please indicate if your chili is extra spicy or caters to dietary needs (vegetarian, gluten-free, etc.).

The cutoff for entering a chili is 4:15 p.m.

Not making chili? Bring a dish to share: Please consider bringing cornbread or some other side dish to share.

Prizes: We’ll award three prizes for the best-tasting chilis and one prize for the best chili name.

Everyone is encouraged to bring a water bottle and/or extra drinks for their family, as well as blankets and/or camping chairs. To keep more parking spots accessible to guests, everyone is encouraged to carpool, if possible.
