Invocation

Dear Heavenly Father, on this Valentine's Day we joyfully enter into your presence.  You are love itself.  You have not only taught us what love is, you have created us to love.  Our hearts are made to love you and to love one another.  May our worship this morning be our love song to you and give us ears to hear your love song to us, sung to us in Jesus Christ.  Amen.

Song | Be Unto Your Name

We are a moment, You are forever
Lord of the Ages, God before time
We are a vapor, You are eternal
Love everlasting, reigning on high

 Holy, holy, Lord God Almighty
Worthy is the Lamb Who was slain
Highest praises, honor and glory
Be unto Your name, be unto Your name

We are the broken, You are the healer
Jesus, Redeemer, Mighty to save
You are the love song we'll sing forever
Bowing before You, blessing Your name

Holy, holy, Lord God Almighty
Worthy is the Lamb Who was slain
Highest praises, honor and glory
Be unto Your name, be unto Your name

Scripture Reading | Psalm 66

Shout for joy to God, all the earth!
2     Sing the glory of his name;
    make his praise glorious.
3 Say to God, “How awesome are your deeds!
    So great is your power
    that your enemies cringe before you.
4 All the earth bows down to you;
    they sing praise to you,
    they sing the praises of your name.”

5 Come and see what God has done,
    his awesome deeds for mankind!
6 He turned the sea into dry land,
    they passed through the waters on foot—
    come, let us rejoice in him.
7 He rules forever by his power,
    his eyes watch the nations—
    let not the rebellious rise up against him.

8 Praise our God, all peoples,
    let the sound of his praise be heard;
9 he has preserved our lives
    and kept our feet from slipping.
10 For you, God, tested us;
    you refined us like silver.
11 You brought us into prison
    and laid burdens on our backs.
12 You let people ride over our heads;
    we went through fire and water,
    but you brought us to a place of abundance.

13 I will come to your temple with burnt offerings
    and fulfill my vows to you—
14 vows my lips promised and my mouth spoke
    when I was in trouble.
15 I will sacrifice fat animals to you
    and an offering of rams;
    I will offer bulls and goats.

16 Come and hear, all you who fear God;
    let me tell you what he has done for me.
17 I cried out to him with my mouth;
    his praise was on my tongue.
18 If I had cherished sin in my heart,
    the Lord would not have listened;
19 but God has surely listened
    and has heard my prayer.
20 Praise be to God,
    who has not rejected my prayer
    or withheld his love from me!

Song | Eternal Light, Shine in my Heart

Eternal light, shine in my heart;
eternal hope, lift up my eyes:
eternal power, be my support;
eternal wisdom, make me wise.

Eternal life, raise me from death;
eternal brightness, make me see:
eternal Spirit, give me breath;
eternal Saviour, come to me:

Until by your most costly grace,
invited by your holy word,
at last I come before your face
to know you, my eternal God.

Praise God from whom all blessings flow
Praise him all creatures here below
Praise him above ye heavenly hosts
Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost
Amen.

Call to Confession

We have sung and been reminded today of this God who is so big, so holy, so perfect, so loving.  The only right response is total and complete surrender to this God of love.  And we are bored??  We reduce God to one of our many interests??  This week we will “try” to make more time for him???  Let us kneel to confess that our God is too small.

Prayer of Confession

Lord, have mercy upon us.  We confess that we like to keep you small.  Small enough so that we can be in control.  Small enough so that we can appear moral and religious but still hold onto our pride and our “stuff.”  Small enough so that we do not reflect who you truly are.  Small enough so that we bring dishonor and shame upon your name.  Small enough that our hearts are curved in upon ourselves and we live stunted lives, robbed of the joy and fulness we were made for.  In your mercy, raise our heads to see your face, full of grace and truth, and may our hearts respond with joy, love, and worship. Amen.

Assurance of Pardon

Beloved, this is true: Jesus loves you and because of that, we are forgiven!

Passing the Peace

May the peace of the Lord be with you.

            Response: And also with you

Affirmation of Faith | Apostles Creed

We believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth; And in Jesus Christ His only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; He descended into hell; the third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, and sits on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the living and the dead. We believe in the Holy Spirit; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.

Proclamation of the Word | Pastor Allan Poole

Acts 20.18-32, 36-38
18 When they arrived, he said to them: “You know how I lived the whole time I was with you, from the first day I came into the province of Asia. 19 I served the Lord with great humility and with tears and in the midst of severe testing by the plots of my Jewish opponents. 20 You know that I have not hesitated to preach anything that would be helpful to you but have taught you publicly and from house to house. 21 I have declared to both Jews and Greeks that they must turn to God in repentance and have faith in our Lord Jesus.

22 “And now, compelled by the Spirit, I am going to Jerusalem, not knowing what will happen to me there. 23 I only know that in every city the Holy Spirit warns me that prison and hardships are facing me. 24 However, I consider my life worth nothing to me; my only aim is to finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me—the task of testifying to the good news of God’s grace.

25 “Now I know that none of you among whom I have gone about preaching the kingdom will ever see me again. 26 Therefore, I declare to you today that I am innocent of the blood of any of you. 27 For I have not hesitated to proclaim to you the whole will of God. 28 Keep watch over yourselves and all the flock of which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers. Be shepherds of the church of God, which he bought with his own blood.  29 I know that after I leave, savage wolves will come in among you and will not spare the flock. 30 Even from your own number men will arise and distort the truth in order to draw away disciples after them. 31 So be on your guard! Remember that for three years I never stopped warning each of you night and day with tears.

32 “Now I commit you to God and to the word of his grace, which can build you up and give you an inheritance among all those who are sanctified.

36 When Paul had finished speaking, he knelt down with all of them and prayed. 37 They all wept as they embraced him and kissed him. 38 What grieved them most was his statement that they would never see his face again. Then they accompanied him to the ship.

Song of Response | He Holds Thy Future in His Hand

(to the tune of “When I Survey the Wondrous Cross”)

He holds thy future in His hand,
Then why should fear thy soul ensnare;
All that He sends is for thy good,
Though sorrow now may be thy share.

He holds thy future in His hand
And His all seeing eye can trace;
The rugged paths thy feet must climb
Until thine eyes shall see His face.

He holds thy future in His hand,
Then let thy heart from care be free;
Trust Him for He thy soul will guide,
Into a glad eternity.

Dear Jesus, we give you thanks that you have invited us to participate with you in the work of your Kingdom.  We give you thanks that we have a reason, a “why” for our lives.  And we give you thanks that we are a part of your new creation.

Lord, so we pray that we would be used by you in bringing many people to come to know you and to trust in you.  We pray that we might be a community that reflects your grace and your truth.  We pray that you would help us to be faithful witnesses to who you are.

We pray that we would be a people who demonstrate your compassion, particularly for those who are lost...  for those who are sick... for those who are grieving...  for those who are discouraged and anxious... for those who are hungering for things to be made right...

Lord, in your mercy, fill us with a love for you that overflows in a love for one another that overflows in a love for our neighbors that overflows in an unspeakable joy that overflows in a perseverance that endures until That Day when we see you face to face.  Until That Day, we pray as you taught us,...

Our Father...

The Lord’s Prayer
Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name.
Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors;
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For Thine is the kingdom and the power, and the glory, forever.
Amen.

Benediction

Song | Salvation Belongs to Our God

Salvation belongs to our God,
Who sits upon the throne,
And unto the Lamb....

Praise and Glory, Wisdom and Thanks,
Honor and Power and Strength
Be to our God forever and ever! (3x)
Amen!

And we the redeemed shall be strong
In purpose and unity,
Declaring aloud....

Praise and Glory, Wisdom and Thanks,
Honor and Power and Strength
Be to our God forever and ever! (3x)
