Invocation

For thus says the high and lofty one who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy: “I dwell in the high and holy place, and also with those who are contrite and humble in spirit.  I come to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite.” [Isaiah 57:15] Lord, we come to you with humble and contrite spirits.  Come, and revive our spirits and breathe new life into our hearts.  In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.

Song | “Be Unto Your Name”

We are a moment, You are forever,
Lord of the ages, God before time;
We are a vapor, You are eternal,
Love everlasting, reigning on high.

Holy, holy Lord God almighty,
Worthy is the Lamb who was slain.
Highest praises, honor and glory
Be unto Your name! Be unto Your name!

We are the broken, You are the healer,
Jesus Redeemer, mighty to save.
You are the love song, we’ll sing forever,
Bowing before You, blessing Your name.

Scripture Reading | Psalm 62

1 Truly my soul finds rest in God;
my salvation comes from him.

2 Truly he is my rock and my salvation;
he is my fortress, I will never be shaken.

3 How long will you assault me?
Would all of you throw me down—
this leaning wall, this tottering fence?

4 Surely they intend to topple me
from my lofty place;
they take delight in lies.
With their mouths they bless,
but in their hearts they curse.

5 Yes, my soul, find rest in God;
my hope comes from him.

6 Truly he is my rock and my salvation;
he is my fortress, I will not be shaken.

7 My salvation and my honor depend on God;
he is my mighty rock, my refuge.

8 Trust in him at all times, you people;
pour out your hearts to him,
for God is our refuge.

9 Surely the lowborn are but a breath,
the highborn are but a lie.
If weighed on a balance, they are nothing;
together they are only a breath.

10 Do not trust in extortion
or put vain hope in stolen goods;
though your riches increase,
do not set your heart on them.

11 One thing God has spoken,
two things I have heard:
“Power belongs to you, God,

12 and with you, Lord, is unfailing love”;
and, “You reward everyone
according to what they have done.”

Song | “Before the Throne of God Above”

Before the throne of God above
I have a strong, a perfect plea:
A Great High Priest, whose name is Love,
who ever lives and pleads for me.
My name is written on His hands,
my name is hidden in His heart;
I know that while in heaven He stands
no power can force me to depart,
No power can force me to depart.

When Satan tempts me to despair
and tells me of the guilt within,
Upward I look, and see Him there
who made an end of all my sin.
Because the sinless Savior died,
my sinful soul is counted free;
For God, the just is satisfied
to look on Him and pardon me,
To look on Him and pardon me.

Behold Him there! The risen Lamb,
my perfect, sinless Righteousness,
The great unchangeable I AM,
the King of glory and of grace!
One with my Lord I cannot die;
my soul is purchased by His blood,
My life is safe with Christ on high,
with Christ, my Savior and my God,
With Christ, my Savior and my God.

Call to Confession

Beloved, behold Him there!  The risen Lamb!  Can we take a moment and behold Christ, our Savior and our God?  Here, in his presence, our sin is exposed.  We cannot hide.  Denial is foolish.  All we can do is confess our sin and hope in his mercy.  Remember what he said to the sinful woman, “Neither do I condemn you.  Go and sin no more.” [John 8:1-11] So, come, let us kneel in confession before Christ, our Savior and our God.

Prayer of Confession

Almighty and most merciful Father; We have erred and strayed from your ways like lost sheep.  We have followed too much the devices and desires of our own hearts.  We have offended against your holy laws.  We have left undone those things which we ought to have done and we have done those things which we ought not to have done and there is no health in us.  But thou, O Lord, have mercy upon us.  Spare those, O God, who confess their faults.  Restore those who are penitent according to your promises declared to humankind in Christ Jesus our Lord.  And grant, O most merciful Father, for his sake, that we may hereafter live a holy, just, and humble life, to the glory of your Holy Name.  Amen.

Assurance of Pardon

Beloved,  this is true: our God is full of mercy!  In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven!

Passing the Peace

May the peace of the Lord be with you.

            Response: And also with you

Affirmation of Faith | Apostles Creed

We believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth; And in Jesus Christ His only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; He descended into hell; the third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, and sits on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the living and the dead. We believe in the Holy Spirit; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.

Proclamation of the Word | Pastor Allan Poole

Ephesians 6:1-10
Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. “Honor your father and mother”—which is the first commandment with a promise— “so that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth.”

Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.

Slaves, obey your earthly masters with respect and fear, and with sincerity of heart, just as you would obey Christ. Obey them not only to win their favor when their eye is on you, but as slaves of Christ, doing the will of God from your heart. Serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not people, because you know that the Lord will reward each one for whatever good they do, whether they are slave or free.

And masters, treat your slaves in the same way. Do not threaten them, since you know that he who is both their Master and yours is in heaven, and there is no favoritism with him.

10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.

Song of Response |  “I Am For You”

I am the Bread of Life,
When you’re hungry, I will feed you.
I am the Bread of Life,
When you’re hungry, I will fill you.

I am for you. (4x)

I am the Light of the World,
In the darkness, I am shining.
I am the Light of the World,
In the darkness, I will lead you.

I am for you. (4x)

I am the Good, Good Shepherd,
From your fears I will protect you.
I am the Good, Good Shepherd,
When you wander, I will seek you.

I am for you. (4x)

(As you pray the following petitions, you are encouraged to pause and lift to the Lord particular concerns or people or events. Read prayer requests from Blacknall members and ministry partners here.)

Lord, we give you thanks that in Jesus Christ you have revealed that, indeed, you are for us!  May that truth sink deep into our souls so that we would be grounded in knowing who we are so that we might live lives of generosity, grace, and gratitude.

Lord, you are the Bread of Life.  We pray for those who are physically hungry this day and for those for whom their next meal is uncertain.  We pray for those who are hungering and thirsting for righteousness; for those who are hungry for this world to be made right.  Lord, we name our own hunger, where we are longing for you to make things right...

Lord, you are the Light of the World.  We pray that your light would shine through us into our world, our neighborhoods, our families, our schools, our workplaces.  We pray that your light would bring repentance in us and in the world.  We pray that your light would bring hope in us and in the world.

Lord, you are the Good, Good Shepherd.  We thank you that you pursue those who are lost and wounded.  We pray for those on our hearts and minds who do not know you…  who have wandered away from you… for those who are sick and need your care…  for those who are grieving and need your comfort…

Lord, may we live this day with your song in our hearts, I am for you.  We pray this, thankful for Jesus,

who taught us to pray…

Our Father...

The Lord’s Prayer
Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name.
Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors;
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For Thine is the kingdom and the power, and the glory, forever.
Amen.

Benediction
