Join us on Sunday, Oct. 18, for Blacknall’s 20th Annual Festival of the Bean! This chili-lovers’ event and competition will take place from 3 - 6 p.m. at Camp Chestnut Ridge in Efland.

All kinds of chili to sample, along with a judged competition to name our “Lord” or “Lady of the Bean” for the top chili.
Lawn games for all ages. Feel free to bring volleyballs, frisbees, and your own games to share.
Desserts, including a s’mores station.
Want to help at the event? Volunteer to help in a variety of roles the day before our festival or the day of the event!
Details
If you’re making chili: Please bring your chili in a crockpot with a ladle for serving, plus any condiments specific to your recipe. Blacknall will provide sour cream and grated cheese for toppings. If you’re joining our competition (and we hope you do), give your chili a fantastic name that doesn’t reveal who made it. Please also indicate whether your chili is extra spicy or meets specific dietary needs (vegetarian, gluten-free, etc.). The cutoff for entering a chili is 4:15 p.m.

Think you have a chili recipe unlike any other? Get inspired by some creative entries from past Festival of the Bean winners.

Not making chili? Bring a dish to share. Please consider bringing cornbread or another side dish that pairs well with chili.
Everyone is encouraged to bring a water bottle and/or extra drinks for their family, as well as blankets and/or camping chairs. To keep more parking spots accessible to guests, please carpool if possible.

4:15 p.m. | Cutoff time for entering the chili contest
4:45 - 5:15 p.m. | Chili judging
5 - 5:45 p.m. | Dinner and s’mores
5:30 p.m. | Winner announced and declared Lord or Lady of the Bean
6 p.m. | Cleanup
