In January 2025, U.S. Customs and Border Protection ended appointment scheduling through the CBP One app for migrants seeking asylum after traveling from Mexico. Many of those hoping for a better life in America were Christians — and so were some of the people who celebrated the end of their opportunity.
That contradiction is the starting point of “Jesus Was a Migrant,” a new documentary from historian and New York Times-bestselling author Jemar Tisby, who traveled to the border to ask a question many Christians avoided: “What does our faith require of us when it comes to migrants and asylum seekers?”
All are invited to a screening of the 30-minute film and discussion on Saturday, June 13. Showtime is 7 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall and will include a discussion afterward. The event is co-sponsored by the Blacknall Film Collective and Blacknall’s Committee on Jesus, Race, and the Church, which supports Christian discipleship on matters of race and ethnicity as part of carrying out the church’s mission in the world.
Join the screening to learn more about the experiences of asylum seekers and how you can get involved through prayer and action. Bring a friend and a snack to share!
