During a time of uncertainty and stress for many migrants, join us to hear how you can be an advocate for our Durham neighbors. We're hosting a day of discussion and prayer as we deepen our understanding of how we can be a part of their support system. “Loving Our Migrant God and Our Migrant Neighbor: A Christian Focus on Loving Durham’s Immigrants in a Time of Deportations” is a special event hosted by Blacknall with its ministry partner, the Mt. Level Community Partnership for Racial Justice.
The event will take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 21 in our Fellowship Hall.
Fruit, pastries, coffee, snacks, and lunch provided.
You can register to join us using this form. A $20 donation at the event is suggested but not required — any donation is welcomed.
As part of the event, we’ll welcome two presenters to offer perspectives on how we can better care for our neighbors. Both are engaged in community organizing and activism for immigrant justice.
Isaac Samuel Villegas is the son of Latin American immigrants and grew up along the U.S.-Mexico border.
He’s the author of “Migrant God: a Christian Vision for Immigrant Justice” and has served as pastor at the Chapel Hill Mennonite Church for 16 years.
Alexandra Valladares was born in Honduras and crossed the U.S. border when she was 5 years old to reunite with her mother. Now a U.S. citizen, she was Durham’s first Latina school board member. She serves as the president of Communidad de Durham, the program coordinator of Duke’s BOOST Science Program, a trustee for North Carolina Central University, and on the Leadership Council of Health AI Partnership.
