Sacred Fire: A Durham Pentecost Celebration
The Mt. Level Community Partnership for Racial Justice (MLCPRJ) invites you to a city-wide celebration of Pentecost! On Sunday, May 19, representatives from several Durham churches will lead a time of unified worship and celebration of Pentecost in Durham Central Park starting at 5 p.m. Blacknall is one of the organizing churches of the MLCPRJ.
Presenters include: Dr. William C. Turner Jr., Mt. Level MBC; Tammy Rodman, Reality Ministries; Goodie Bell, Blacknall; Rev. Tanya Johnson, Abundant Hope Christian Church; Rev. Breana van Velzen, DCIA, Dr. Johnson C. Augustine, St. Joseph AME, and Dr. Michael Page, Antioch Baptist Church.
The inspiration for this event originated from a recent MLCPRJ-hosted book study of “Becoming Human: The Holy Spirit and the Rhetoric of Race” by Dr. Luke Powery. Powery points his readers to focus in the Spirit on our “common ground, human to human, earth to earth.” This Durham Pentecost celebration hopes to do this by bringing Durham together in the Pentecost story.
The celebration will also include stations to register voters and arts and crafts for children! Bring your lawn chairs and don’t forget to RSVP to receive the event program and important updates. We look forward to seeing you there!
