Duke Divinity invites you to a one-of-a-kind concert, “Cries of Loss and Hope: Marking a Difficult Season in Music and Word.” Hosted by The Duke Initiative in Theology and the Arts (DITA), the performance finds its inspiration in the Bible’s cries of pain and lament along with its cries of joy and celebration. The concert will be held in the Baldwin Auditorium (East Campus) on Friday, September 2 at 7 p.m.
The New Caritas Orchestra, directed by Jeremy Begbie, will play music from Purcell to Latinx, Baroque to jazz, classical song to contemporary film, and all interspersed with contemporary poetry. Together, we will lament the past and look forward to a new day with fresh confidence in God.
The New Caritas Orchestra is a growing group of over 50 professional musicians of Christian faith from across the country. The evening will also feature an ensemble of young musicians from the Raleigh Music Collective which offers free violin, viola, and cello classes to at-risk refugee students.
Attendees may choose to pay between $10 - $50 for general admission. All seating is on a first come, first seated basis. All proceeds will go to NC organizations supporting refugees.
