The first session of this class, on Sept. 11 , will meet in the Sanctuary. All subsequent sessions will gather in the Fellowship Hall.
Our class will continue exploring what it means to grow in maturity as a community "...so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ" (Eph 4:12). We are using "Devotional Classics" edited by Richard J. Foster and James Bryan Smith. Foster and Smith bring together the voices of many saints — such as, Augustine, Lewis, Bonhoeffer, Ignatius — as they contemplate what it means to live into a: (1) prayer-filled life; (2) virtuous life; (3) spirit-empowered life; (4) compassionate life; (5) word-centered life; and (6) sacramental life. Each reading is accompanied by an introduction and meditation by Foster, a renowned Christian writer known for his writings on spiritual formation.
