Summer Reading Group

Thursdays, May 18-July 20, 9:30-11:15 a.m.
Blacknall Fellowship Hall

Register by May 11.

Let’s gather for casual discussion as we read  “Long Days of Small Things: Motherhood as a Spiritual Discipline” by Catherine McNeil.  The hope is to rotate group facilitators so that leadership is shared week to week. Childcare is provided, please include names and ages when you register. Participants purchase their own books, which are available on Amazon. Contact: Meredith Milke.

About the book – “Rich, soul-inspiring practices for moms who have neither quiet nor time.Bleary-eyed from lack of sleep, without a moment of peace and quiet, you wonder if the spiritual life you crave is even possible. But God sees you. He designed this parenting journey, after all. He understands the chaos of motherhood. Catherine McNeill invites you to connect with God right here, in the sacred mundane of every mothering moment.”

Women’s Fireside Chat

Saturday, January 28, 3:30-5:30 p.m.

Join us at the home of Serena Whisenhunt. At the fall Women’s Retreat, Goodie encouraged us to practice sharing our stories. Here is an invitation to do just that! Whether you were at the retreat or not, please come to an extension of the Fireside Chat. Preparation is not required, though if you’d like to prepare, here’s a suggestion from the retreat:

Writing in first person and/or third person, craft your story using these prompts. They help you find the essentials of your story (“Once upon a time…and every day….until one day…and because of this (and then)….and then….until finally…and ever since that day…”). The content of the event will be determined by the storytellers – you!

What is Your Story Workshop

Stephanie Gehring Ladd, a Blacknall new member, artist and writer is offering the gift of a women’s workshop.

Stephanie writes,  “In novels and memoirs, a person’s life story often sounds like it showed up fully formed, with a plot and coherent themes and clear main characters. The conversion stories I heard growing up always sounded like they had a very clear before and after. My own life has often felt like a big jumble with no clear story, and lots of repeating loops. But the work of discovering that there is a story in the jumble is exciting and freeing. Join me to think about the many kinds of shapes stories can have, to consider the shape of your own story, and to share what you find with another person. All are welcome, whether you want to think through your own faith story for the first time, or whether you have been telling it for decades.”

Invite a friend, since story applies to everyone no matter what faith. Fee is $5 at the door. Contact: Margaret Frothingham.
