Children

Welcome to Blacknall Children’s Ministry! We believe the words of Jesus that it is to these little ones the Kingdom of Heaven belongs. We desire to welcome the children in Jesus’ name knowing that when we do this we welcome Him as well.

In this spirit of hospitality we want to provide a safe, loving place where these precious ones can hear and know that they are loved by the Father. Here are some of the key elements of Children’s Ministry at Blacknall:

  • Walking with parents as they fulfill their vocation to lay a foundation of Christian faith for their children.
  • Leading children towards understanding and receiving God’s love as ultimately demonstrated in Jesus Christ.
  • Providing opportunities for growth in prayer, worship, Scripture study, fellowship and service of others.
  • Providing a tangible way for individual families and members of the church to fulfill the vows taken when children are baptized.
Sunday Mornings

We offer Nursery care, Sunday School, and Children’s Worship during Sunday mornings. During our 8:30 and 11:00 worship services, children birth – 3 years old are cared for in the Nursery. Children four years old through second grade are invited to worship with their families in the sanctuary until the children’s blessing, at which point they will be escorted downstairs for children’s worship. Children in third grade and higher participate in the worship service for its duration, and are encouraged to utilize our Sermon Journal as a way of connecting deeper with the sermon. During the 9:45 Sunday School hour, we offer Sunday School classes for children two years old through fifth grade.

Children’s Dance Group

Sundays | 5:30 – 6:30 p.m. | Community Room
Learn to worship God through dance during these weekly gatherings in the Community Room. Dancers will occasionally have the opportunity to lead the congregation in worship on Sunday mornings. No strong dancing background or special dance attire required, but ballet shoes and stretchy pants are recommended. We will be starting back September 13, 2015. If you plan to join us, please fill out the emergency contact sheet. Contact: Bethany Bonnemere

Art & Worship

Children ages four and up are invited to join in nine weeks of art exploration and worship as we work together to create art that will help the congregation in its worship and consideration of God’s story. Last year this class did amazing work that prepared us for Advent and helped create beautiful pieces that contribute to the meaningful worship experience during our Christmas season. Come and find out what we will be creating this year. Each week we will worship together, consider great works of art that help to tell God’s story, have a brief meditation and conversation about what scripture tells us, and work together to create something beautiful! Ask anyone who participated last year. This class provides an amazing opportunity for people from all ages and stages to be together in a very meaningful way.

Vacation Bible School

VBS (Kindergarten – 5th grade); Junior VBS (Ages 3 & 4)
One week annually in June
Children experience the world of the Bible in a unique way as the church is transformed into an ancient Biblical city in which our Bible story takes place. The last two years we have recreated Rome as we studied the Apostle Paul’s life, and Babylon, in studying Daniel. All activities children participate in fit the theme for the week, including games, singing, crafts, and food/snacks. This week has been a highlight for children in growing deeper in God’s Word, building relationships with other children and adults in the congregation, and having fun at church!

Volunteers

Interested in being a part of this important ministry? We welcome volunteers! It truly takes a village to run our Children’s Ministries on Sunday morning! Please contact Beth (below) for more information.

Mission

Blacknall Children’s Ministry seeks to partner with parents to lead children toward saving faith in Jesus Christ and towards Christian maturity as beloved members of God’s covenant family.

Whoever welcomes one of these little children in my name welcomes me. – Mark 9:37

…We will tell the next generation the praiseworthy deeds of the LORD, his power and the wonders he has done…so the next generation would know them, even the children yet to be born, and they in turn would tell their children. – Psalm 78:4b,6
