Welcome to Blacknall Children’s Ministry! We believe the words of Jesus that it is to these little ones the Kingdom of Heaven belongs. We desire to welcome the children in Jesus’ name knowing that when we do this we welcome Him as well.
In this spirit of hospitality we want to provide a safe, loving place where these precious ones can hear and know that they are loved by the Father. Here are some of the key elements of Children’s Ministry at Blacknall:
- Walking with parents as they fulfill their vocation to lay a foundation of Christian faith for their children.
- Leading children towards understanding and receiving God’s love as ultimately demonstrated in Jesus Christ.
- Providing opportunities for growth in prayer, worship, Scripture study, fellowship and service of others.
- Providing a tangible way for individual families and members of the church to fulfill the vows taken when children are baptized.
We offer Nursery care, Sunday School, and Children’s Worship during Sunday mornings. During our 8:30 and 11:00 worship services, children birth – 3 years old are cared for in the Nursery. Children four years old through second grade are invited to worship with their families in the sanctuary until the children’s blessing, at which point they will be escorted downstairs for children’s worship. Children in third grade and higher participate in the worship service for its duration, and are encouraged to utilize our Sermon Journal as a way of connecting deeper with the sermon. During the 9:45 Sunday School hour, we offer Sunday School classes for children two years old through fifth grade.
Children & Worship Class
Kindergarten – 5th grade
TableTalk is a church-wide program offering dinner, fellowship, and various classes on some aspect of discipleship or mission. Children and Worship seeks to deepen children’s understanding of and ability to engage in worship more fully through choral singing, playing hand bells, games, and engaging with Scripture.
Seeds of Faith Class
Ages 3 & 4
“Seeds of Faith” is a class with a concentration on Scripture songs and other methods of memorizing Scripture. Our hope is that this class will jump-start a program of Scripture memorization for our youngest kids at Blacknall, and will include strategies for families to continue memorization at home. The class will be team-taught by a group of parents and educators, many of whom specialize in early childhood education and music.
Vacation Bible School
VBS (Kindergarten – 5th grade); Junior VBS (Ages 3 & 4)
One week annually in June
Children experience the world of the Bible in a unique way as the church is transformed into an ancient Biblical city in which our Bible story takes place. The last two years we have recreated Rome as we studied the Apostle Paul’s life, and Babylon, in studying Daniel. All activities children participate in fit the theme for the week, including games, singing, crafts, and food/snacks. This week has been a highlight for children in growing deeper in God’s Word, building relationships with other children and adults in the congregation, and having fun at church!
Children’s Dance Group
Sunday evenings, 5:30 – 6:30 p.m.
Learn to worship God through dance during these weekly gatherings in the Community Room. Dancers occasionally will have the opportunity to lead the congregation in worship on Sunday mornings. No strong dancing background required. Contact: Bethany Bonnemere
Interested in being a part of this important ministry? We welcome volunteers! It truly takes a village to run our Children’s Ministries on Sunday morning! Please contact Beth (below) for more information.
Blacknall Children’s Ministry seeks to partner with parents to lead children toward saving faith in Jesus Christ and towards Christian maturity as beloved members of God’s covenant family.
Whoever welcomes one of these little children in my name welcomes me. – Mark 9:37
…We will tell the next generation the praiseworthy deeds of the LORD, his power and the wonders he has done…so the next generation would know them, even the children yet to be born, and they in turn would tell their children. – Psalm 78:4b,6
