June 2: First week of Summer Sunday School (children will meet in their regular classrooms)
August 18: Last day of Summer Sunday School
August 25: Promotion Sunday (children are promoted up to their next grade level and classroom)

Elementary (children completing Kindergarten – 5th grade)

June 2*: Children meet in regular classes
June 9*: Last week of regular classes (Be sure to thank your child’s teacher for their investment in his/her faith development!)
June 16: First week of Summer Sunday School with new teachers and combined classes. (See schedule below)
August 18: Last Sunday of Summer Sunday School
August 25: Promotion Sunday (children are promoted up to their next grade level and classroom)

*Please note we have extended our regular Sunday School program by two weeks in June in order to be more consistent with the Durham Public Schools traditional school year calendar and to avoid high numbers of children in combined classes those weeks.

Class location and teachers are listed below. Please note that children are to attend the classroom of the grade they just completed in school. Children (of all ages) are promoted up to their next grade level on Promotion Sunday, August 25. Please alert your child to this change for the summer and allow a few extra minutes on Sunday, June 16, for drop-off as you and your child adjust to a new classroom and a new teacher. We have sought to secure the same teachers for the duration of the summer (June, July, and August), but in some cases this is not possible due to travel schedules.

Kindergarten – 2nd grade (rising 1st – 3rd graders) will meet in Room #102, the middle room off the Commons area on Level 1 (Confirmation Sunday School room). Rotating teachers for the various months include Karen Bohn, Amy Rowell, and others, along with other assistants.

3rd – 5th grade (rising 4th – 6th graders) will meet next door in Room # 103, the corner room off the Commons. Teachers include Tommy and Mary Grimm, and others.

Friday, June 14
6-8 p.m. at St. John’s Missionary Baptist Church (917 Onslow Street, Durham)

Street Reach is an annual family-friendly fair organized by St. John’s Missionary Baptist Church that features food and fun while highlighting a range of ministries and other organizations that are working to improve community life for local residents.  This is a great way for families to play games together, make new friends, and learn about some of the good things that God is doing amongst our neighbors in Walltown.

Specific volunteer opportunities include:

• Set-up (3:30 – 6 p.m. as available)
• Game stations (one hour shifts between 5:30 and 8 p.m.)
• Food station (one hour shifts between 5:30 and 8 p.m.)
• Clean-up (7:30 – 8:30 p.m.)

“Fabulous Jewelry Party”
7-9 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall

Drop in and make a pair of earrings, a necklace, or a bracelet.  Bring broken jewelry for quick repair. Enjoy being with new and old friends and come away with fabulous new jewelry. The event is free, and supplies and tools will be provided. If you have beads, findings or tools and supplies, please bring them. Questions? Contact Shelly Epps. 7-9 p.m. at Cocoa Cinnamon (420 W. Geer Street, Durham)
