Alpha Volunteers
This page is designed for church members and previous Alpha guests who are interested in helping with upcoming Alpha courses. Information for those interested in attending or inviting friends to the course can be found here.
Alpha is a hospitality-based program that encourages people to explore the meaning of life and the basics of Christianity. It does not presume any prior knowledge and is focused on encouraging questions. Alpha is used by churches around the world and is supported by all main Christian denominations.
Blacknall hopes to offer Alpha courses at various times throughout the year. Groups will most often meet in homes across the Durham-Chapel Hill area. See the Alpha guest page for course details (i.e., days, times) and a map of home locations.
Alpha groups typically include 3-8 guests and 2-3 helpers and leaders. Each week, everyone participates in a delicious shared meal, a brief time of worship, a video presentation that seeks to address some of the crucial questions concerning life and the Christian faith, and a time for small group discussion. The first night is often a kick-off event where people can come and get a feel for the course without any commitment or pressure to continue. After that, groups meet once a week for about 10 weeks.
Alpha is for anyone. It is designed to introduce those who want to learn about the Christian faith, beliefs and shared life of the Church. It is also an excellent way to be reminded or re-grounded in one’s understanding of our life in Christ.
For people to come, they have to hear about it! Please think of friends, family members, and neighbors who may be interested in Alpha and let them know about it. It is never too early to get the word out. They do not need to attend Blacknall to participate in the course. Printed invitations and a website with more info for guests are available.
