Alpha
Blacknall will be hosting a home-based Alpha course starting September 22, 2010. The time and location for this course are to be determined. Check back soon for more details, or contact a member of the Alpha Planning Team at alpha@blacknall.org.
What is Alpha?
Alpha is an opportunity for anyone to explore the Christian faith. Participants enjoy a great meal, laugh, and learn together in a friendly, low key environment. No question is out of bounds and guests are free to discuss as much or as little as they wish. We don’t assume any background knowledge of or belief in Christianity. Everyone is welcome.
What’s involved?
Participants meet once a week for 10 weeks in a small group, home setting. Each week, groups gather for about 2-2 ½ hours. The evening starts out with dinner and a chance to get to know one another. After dinner, a short video is shown. The video addresses a different topic related to Christian faith each week. Some topics include:
- Who is Jesus?
- Why did Jesus die?
- Why and how do I pray?
- How does God lead us?
- What about the church?
The video is followed by a time of discussion. Everyone is encouraged to listen and ask questions as they feel comfortable. The emphasis is on exploration and discovery in an informal, non-judgmental setting.
Where and when is Alpha taking place?
Blacknall church hosts Alpha in various Durham and Chapel Hill homes throughout the year. Our next Alpha courses will be offered in September 2010 and January 2011. Course locations and days are to be determined. Check back soon for times and a map of home locations.
There is no pressure to attend the whole course. Feel free to come along for the first night and see what you think.
Who is Alpha for?
Alpha is for EVERYONE, especially:
- Those wanting to investigate Christianity
- New Christians with questions about their faith
- Newcomers to the church
- Those who want to brush up on the basics
What will it cost?
There is no charge for the Alpha course.
What do I do if I want to participate?
If you would like to enroll in an upcoming Alpha course hosted by Blacknall:
- Explore the Alpha Site Map to determine which location is best for you.
- Fill out and submit the Alpha Course Registration Form to register for the course. Someone will contact you shortly after your registration form is received.
